## Background check and consent

To rent through LeaseOps, you complete a background check. It reviews four areas:

- **Credit history**
- **Criminal record**
- **Eviction history**
- **Identity**

You start the check yourself, which is how you consent to it. See [Background Check](/books/renter-portal/page/background-check).

## The screening fee

The background check has a **one-time fee**. You pay it before your checks run. You can see the payment later under [Payments](/books/renter-portal/page/payments).

## Your answers

Your questionnaire answers help the owner decide if you are a good match. Answer honestly — your latest answers are the ones the owner sees. See [The Questionnaire](/books/renter-portal/page/the-questionnaire).
